How to legally install seatbelts in old cars?
I'm looking at buying an old (not much money) camper-van for three friends and myself. The only problem is that most of them only have two seat-belts (for the front seats). Am I legally allowed to install seat-belts on the rear bench or do I have to take it to a mechanic or something? By the way, I'm in Canada.

- yes you can...but....you have to install into something with enough support that they wont tear out in an accident. When you buy a set from Summit or Jegs, they come with metal plates that support them from the underside of the place where you are mounting them...
- I would advise you to have a professional install seat belts. A poorly fit seat belt can be more dangerous than no seat belt at all. The fact it didn't come from the factory with seat belts excludes you from seat belt laws in most states and probably Canada as well. If you choose to install them yourself, be sure you anchor it to something solid so it will not come loose in an accident and be sure it will fit the passenger correctly.
- you may want to ask your insurance agent about it before you install the seat belt yourself.. if you install them you may have personal liability for any injuries that occur due to your install.
