My husband is going to start restoring classic cars how can he find out what the original car was like?

We are specificaly wanting to know how to find out what the car originaly looked like. Like the color and intierior, and what the orignal engine size was. How do we go about finding a sight that can help us or books or something.

  1. depends on the make model and year of the cars. Try google for original optoins
  2. ford, chevrolet, dodge?
  3. depends, if its a 60s or 70s cars there are sites you can type the vin in and get the engine size and other things
  4. Look up the VIN online. You can also get the info straight from the manufacturer with the VIN (you'll probably be buying paint and stuff from them anyway). Classic Car forums are great. Many have VIN decoders for multiple cars so you can find the info yourself. Haynes manuals decode VINs for you also.
  5. Back in the days you have to speak with old workers from the cars factories, or old passionate mechanics which was very hard to accomplish and very inaccurate now its quite easy!!! just google it, you get everything given a specific model and year. and greetings to your husband!!! I'm a motors passionate too, I did a reconstruction of a 1971 VW beetle when I was seventeen, damn hard work but the happiest day of my life I'm about to start my dream-car reconstruction 1967 Corvette Stingray ...... I'm sooooo going to enjoy that
  6. If it is classic VW he is restoring go to TheSamba.com and under the techical and archive sections and it gives you vin #s and paint codes and interior colors that were for that year of VW. They have several galleries to look at for specific years and models. Hope this helps you or someone else reading it.
